Kristin Paulson of Ottumwa shattered Sunnyside Country Club’s course record on Tuesday with her second round score of 63, and continued to break yet another record Wednesday for the lowest 54 hole total in Iowa Women’s Amateur history. Paulson finished out her record breaking round with a streak of six birdies on her final holes, 4 through 9, and posted her personal best, 63, with a total of eleven birdies, two bogies, and five pars.
With a three day final score of 202, 69-63-70 , Kristin posted three sub-par rounds and maintained her ten stroke lead after day three to cruise into the first place position. With a total of nineteen birdies and one eagle, Kristin made history at this year’s Women’s Amateur.
Lisa Meshke of West Des Moines, who led after round one with a 68, Jenny Graeser of Cedar Falls, and Katie Kinsinger of Bettendorf all battled for the second place title going into the final round. Lisa Meshke emerged from the pack shooting a final score of 2-under 70. Meshke’s efforts did not go unnoticed as she posted an almost flawless scorecard having three birdies and only a single bogie to claim her runner-up position. Although Meshke finished ten strokes behind Paulson, she ended at 4-under par for the tournament. Following Meshke with a three day total of 214, Beth Wagner of Ankeny posted a final round score of 5-under par, 67, to move into her third place position.
Congratulations to Kristin and all participants in this year’s Iowa Women’s Amateur!
