IOWA GIRLS FINISH THIRD AT 4~STATE

The 2007 Four-State Tournament was held in Fremont, Nebraska at Fremont Country Club.  Iowa's team was comprised of the top five finishers at the Iowa Junior Girl's Championship held earlier this summer in Williamsburg.  Iowa competed against teams from Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska.  Each team consisted of five girls with the four lowest scores counting towards the team total.

Iowa's team fired a great opening round with the combined efforts of Christy Wittmer (Hampton), Katie Suckow (Waukee), Whitney Schrader (Marshalltown), and Amanda Butler (Lamoni).  Their four scores totaled 324 and gave Iowa a five shot lead over Missouri.  The second day proved more difficult for the girls as they shot a 336 and fell two spots to third place.  Missouri won the tournament shooting a two-day total of 637.  Iowa's Christy Wittmer tied with Mary Kate Bird of Missouri for second place at 158.  Missouri's Carolyn Schorgl took individual medalist honors shooting a 153.
